Stories of Vikram and Betal
The stories of Vikram and Betal, originally written in Sanskrit, have been an
integral part of Indian fairy tales for many centuries. Legend has it that King

vampire as a fovour promised to him. The condition is that the king should bring the

its abode. As soon as Vikram attempts to fetch the corpse in which the vampire Betal

compels king Vikram to solve the puzzle of the story, thus breaking his silence. The

The manual of life : Panchtantra

The tales of Panchatantra, perhaps, are the oldest stories known in the literature
of India. The dates of the Panchatantra are not known and these tales are usually
attributed to Vishnu Sharma. Some believe that the fables of panchatantra are as old
as Rig-veda.
The popular story about the origin of Panchatantra goes like this: Once there was a
king who has three son who are dull and without any wit or wisdom. Worried about
the wellbeing of his sons the king approaches a wise brahmin called Vishnu Sharma
and prays him to impart wisdom into his sons. Since the songs of the king are
dimwits, he chooses to pass the wisdom in the form of interesting fables. The stories
narrated by Vishnu Sarma contains animals and birds and he makes them speak and
behave like humans.
Panchatantra tells about five ways that help the human being succeed in life. Pancha
means five and tantra means ways (or strategies or principles). Addressed to the
king’s children, the stories are primarily about statecraft and are popular throughout
the world. The five strategies are:
• Quarrel among friends (mitra-beda)
• Gaining friends (mitra labha)
• Of crows and owls
• Loss of gains
• Imprudence (mindless action)

The manual of life : Self confidence

he purpose of this short book is to inspire people into doing things they never thought
possible just due to lack of confidence. Confidence is the person’s belief in his own
abilities that no matter what the situation he will get over it. My mother once said
“Taking birth and dying are the only two hard things in life, rest all is just
inconvenience”.
People lacking in self confidence lose lot more than they can imagine, from best of jobs to
best of relationships to the best of life, they live in a constant fear of losing, so much that they
lose.
This book is not about motivation, because as I have attended many lectures from the best of
motivators in the world, and yet I lost the zeal to act as soon as I was out of the room. And I
was surprised because till the time I was in that seminar room I felt like they were holding me
back from “action” so why was that happening? I did some research and this is what I come
up with.
Motivation is merely an positive affirmation on the mind exerted by the speaker, that says “
you can do it” it is a part of the hypnosis science which you don’t have to understand in
detail, for now it means that whatever is being told to you repeatedly your mind tend to
believe that. The power of repeating is so great that, if a timid man were to repeat aloud
for a few minutes daily, with earnestness and concentration, a list of words such as
courage, valor, bravery, gallantry, intrepidity, manliness, pluck, backbone, and audacity,
he would shortly find these qualities being incorporated in his own personality.
But there is a problem with motivation, while it can start short term action, it doesn’t last, it’s
almost like a tree without root, it might look green, but it won’t last long. I believe part of the
reason is because motivation does not explain “why “you can do it. Self confidence on the
other hand lasts life long, because it is what grows from inside your mind, and tells you
perhaps why you can do it.

The manual of life - Karma

Karma "act, action, performance" is the concept of "action" or "deed" understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect originating in ancient India and treated in Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Buddhist philosophies.

The philosophical explanation of karma can differ slightly between traditions, but the general concept is basically the same. Through the law of karma, the effects of all deeds actively create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well.
